I
started out majoring in clarinet at Edinboro State College in PA. but
I soon found that getting work as a clarinet player was rather difficult.
Against my teacher's recommendations, I borrowed an alto sax (it ruins
your embouchure for clarinet) and got into a local cover band. What
Fun! When I had to return the alto to it's rightful owner, I moved
on to tenor sax (bought this one). I found myself a member of many bands
during those 8 years, singing, playing tenor / soprano sax, flute, keyboards,
and, of course, tambourine. The last band I was in (called I Inside) played
all original pop-rock music. We worked endlessly for 4 months to prepare
for our first gig at the 'you're-nobody-unless-you-play-here' bar called
Sherlocks in Erie PA. While in this band, I met the man who would eventually
become my husband. We played our first and only weekend gig, and was a
great success. So much of a success, that most of the band felt we were
ready to move on to the Big Time. There was much turmoil and arguments,
so part of the band moved to Boston, and my husband and I moved to Nashville.Although there is much more than just country music in Nashville, country music rules the roost, so we faced reality and got day jobs. We continued to write our own music, recording it with various computers (Commodore 64, Amiga, Atari) until we got smart and bought a Mac. Our first Mac, a Quadra 650, came with a cute kiddie art program. What Fun! And such was the start of another career. That was many years ago, many software versions ago, many computer upgrades ago, and many painstaking years of self-teaching. Still learning new techniques and concepts (sometimes it's the kind of thing you smack yourself on the forehead for while saying "duh"), I'm continually amazed at the vast diversity the computer offers the digital artist.
